The singer shared his experience of meeting the Prime Minister in a post on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “A fantastic start to 2025. A very memorable meeting with PM @narendramodiJi. We talked about a lot of things including music of course!"

The meeting follows a recent controversy over the singer's social media post, which sparked a "Punjab vs Panjab" debate. In a recent post on X, the singer shared a video of his arrival at Chandigarh airport, captioned with the word "Panjab."

Social media users accused him of intentionally leaving out the Indian flag emoji in his post. In response, Diljit denied the claims, calling them conspiracy theories.

The post says, " If the tricolour is missed once while mentioning Punjab in a tweet, it's called a conspiracy. Even in a tweet about Bengaluru, it was missed once. If Punjab is written as Panjab, it's called a conspiracy. Whether you write it as Panjab or Punjab...it will always remain Punjab (he wrote in Punjabi)."

Diljit explained that the name Punjab comes from Persian, meaning "Land of the Five Rivers" (with "panj" meaning five and "ab" meaning water). He added that spelling differences in English, a colonial language, do not affect Punjab's identity.

Earlier, the singer faced controversy for giving a gift to a fan on stage at an event in the UK. When the fan mentioned she was from Pakistan, the singer said he doesn’t believe borders divide people. According to him, borders are created by politicians, not by the people of the countries.

Diljit Dosanjh’s New Year’s Eve concert in Ludhiana faced a legal issue after Punditrao Dharenavar, an assistant professor from Chandigarh, filed a complaint. This led the Punjab Women’s and Child Department to step in, issuing a notice to Ludhiana’s District Commissioner to stop Dosanjh from performing certain songs.

The singer has faced similar criticism in other cities like Hyderabad and Indore for performing songs that promote alcohol and violence. During his Indore concert, Dosanjh also spoke about issues with tickets for his shows being sold on the black market.
