Diljit Dosanjh Wished to Wear the World’s Most Expensive Necklace Wear, But was Denied: Read to Know!

Diljit Dosanjh made a striking debut at the 2025 Met Gala, embracing his Punjabi heritage with a look inspired by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala. Dressed in a custom Prabal Gurung ensemble, Diljit donned a traditional turban, kurta, and tehmat, complemented by a cape inscribed with Gurmukhi script and a ceremonial sword.

This attire paid homage to the Met Gala's theme, "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," by blending cultural pride with contemporary fashion.

In an interview with The New York Times, Diljit shared his perspective on the ensemble: "It’s what I’ve been doing all this time. It’s about carrying your identity with pride, right?" 

To further embody the regal theme, Diljit's team sought to borrow the historic Patiala Necklace, commissioned by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh in 1928.

This Cartier masterpiece, originally containing 2,900 diamonds and weighing 1,000 carats, is valued at approximately $2.5 billion today. However, the request was declined as the necklace is preserved in a museum. 

Undeterred, stylist Abhilasha Devnani collaborated with Indian jeweler Golecha to create pieces inspired by the Maharaja's collection, including a distinctive turban brooch. This adaptation allowed Diljit to maintain the essence of his tribute while adhering to the event's guidelines.

Diljit's appearance at the Met Gala not only celebrated his cultural roots but also highlighted the rich history of Indian royalty on a global stage. His thoughtful ensemble resonated with audiences, showcasing the fusion of tradition and modernity.
