Mr. 360 of Indian Premier League, Ab de Villiers becomes sixth player and second overseas player to complete 5,000 IPL runs in the league history. In the ongoing clash against Delhi Capitals he achieved this feat with scoring 75 runs.
De Villiers has been one of the finest overseas players in the IPL; he has been the part of Delhi Daredevils and today’s Delhi Capitals for the first three years of IPL. In 2011, De Villiers got purchased by Royal Challengers Bangalore.
He scored 671 runs in 28 matches he played for the Delhi-based franchise. The tally also includes a century. and has scored truckloads of runs for his present franchise. He has 4382 runs for his present team. RCB have been retaining the former South Africa captain since 2011 and he isn’t expected to play for any other franchise now.
Apart from De Villiers, David Warner is another overseas player with over 5000 IPL runs. The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain has scored 5390 runs in the tournament. Warner also played for DC early in his career and scored 1435 runs in 55 matches for them. He has been with SRH since 2014.
Overall, the list of most run-scorers in IPL is topped by Virat Kohli. The only batsman with over 6000 runs in the league, Kohli has 6041 runs in 198 matches. He has also hit five centuries.
Kohli is followed by Suresh Raina, the former highest run-getter in IPL. Raina, who missed IPL 2020, has 5472 runs in 198 matches. Delhi Capitals’ Shikhar Dhawan sits at the 3rd spot with 5456 runs. He has also played for SRH.
Rohit Sharma, who has been leading Mumbai Indians since 2013, sits at the 4th spot with 5431 runs. He is followed by Warner and De Villiers.
Chris Gayle (4891), MS Dhoni (4669), Robin Uthappa (4607) and Gautam Gambhir (4217) are next on the list.
