A joyous wedding celebration in Vashi turned into a distressing experience for a Thane-based family after a major theft occurred during the event. While celebrating their son’s wedding at a hotel in Vashi, a family from Thane suffered a loss of gold and diamond necklaces worth ₹8.5 lakh. The jewellery was reportedly stolen by an unidentified individual who entered the wedding venue and took off with the bag containing the valuables on Sunday. The APMC Police have launched an investigation following a complaint lodged by Kanhaiyalal Gwalani, an oil businessman from Thane and the father of the groom. Authorities are currently working to trace the suspect and recover the stolen items.

Gwalani’s family had brought along valuable jewellery for the wedding, placing it in a grey and pink bag during the reception in the banquet hall. The bag, which contained a diamond necklace set valued at ₹6 lakh and a gold necklace set worth ₹2.5 lakh, was kept on a sofa inside the hall. At around 10 p.m., the family discovered that the bag was missing. Despite thoroughly searching the venue, they were unable to locate it and promptly alerted the police.

“We have registered a case of theft. We have got some leads and we are working on it to zero down on the suspect,” said Satish Nikam, Senior Inspector at APMC Police Station. According to police sources, CCTV footage from the hotel showed an unidentified man entering the banquet hall from outside. He lingered for a few minutes before taking the bag and leaving the premises.

Authorities are now working to determine whether the individual matches the description of any known offenders. Officials added that this is the first incident of its kind at the hotel. As a precaution, hotel staff have been directed to verify the identity of all individuals entering the hall during ongoing events.
