Virat Kohli Faces Backlash After Bengaluru Stampede: Calls for Arrest Emerge

In a tragic turn of events, a stampede outside Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4, 2025, during Royal Challengers Bangalore’s IPL victory parade, claimed the lives of 11 people and injured over 60. The celebrations, meant to mark a historic win for RCB, quickly spiraled into chaos due to overcrowding and alleged mismanagement.

Amid the aftermath, public outrage has turned toward cricket icon Virat Kohli, with hashtags like #ArrestViratKohli trending across social media platforms. Many netizens criticized the continuation of the celebrations inside the stadium even after news of the stampede emerged, calling it insensitive and irresponsible. The criticism intensified after Kohli reportedly left for London shortly after the event, sparking accusations of indifference.

A police complaint was officially filed against Kohli by social activist H.M. Venkatesh at the Cubbon Park Police Station. The complaint alleged that the cricketer, as a prominent face of RCB, bore moral responsibility for failing to intervene or acknowledge the incident publicly at the time.

In addition to the complaint, an FIR has been registered against the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise, event organizers DNA Entertainment, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).

While the legal system will determine the extent of accountability, the tragedy has opened up a larger conversation about event safety, public crowd control, and the responsibilities of celebrities and organizers in managing large-scale public gatherings. As investigations are underway, fans and citizens alike are demanding answers, accountability, and justice for the lives lost in what was supposed to be a moment of celebration.
