Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma, who has been struggling with his batting in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, decided to sit out the 5th and final Test match in Sydney. While fans shared their opinions on his absence, Bollywood celebrities also jumped in. Among them, actress Vidya Balan posted on Instagram, praising Rohit for taking a break and saying it takes "courage" to make such a decision.
Vidya Balan posted saying, “Rohit Sharma, what a SUPERSTAR!! To take a pause & catch your breath requires courage… More power to you … Respect…"
Some people praised the actress for supporting the cricketer, while others accused her of sharing a PR message on social media. As trolls began targeting her, Vidya Balan reportedly deleted the post. However, by that time, a screenshot of her post had already gone viral.
Some Reddit users claimed the actress intentionally shared a PR message and criticized her for it.
A Reddit user suggested that the recent social media posts supporting Rohit Sharma seem like a planned PR strategy. They also hinted that these posts reveal who might be leaking information from the Indian cricket team's dressing room.
Farhan Akhtar, a Bollywood director and actor, had earlier shared a long post on Instagram supporting Rohit Sharma, just like Vidya Balan.
Interestingly, the last time it was checked, even Farhan Akhtar wasn’t following Rohit Sharma on Instagram.
Now, with Bollywood actors showing support for Rohit Sharma, some social media users are suggesting that a PR team might be behind it. This comes after Rohit was left out of the 5th Test match against Australia, sparking rumors about his possible retirement from Test cricket.
