On Wednesday, a source close to the Russia and India vaccine deal has said that Russia’s sovereign wealth fund has accorded a deal to sell 100 million doses of its Covid-19 vaccine, Sputnik-V, to some major listed pharmaceutical companies in India including Dr. Reddy’s laboratories. Moscow is rapidly working on the distribution of the shot of the vaccine abroad.
The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) has successfully cracked a deal with Indian manufacturers to produce 300 million doses of vaccine in India. As per the report in Reuters, RDIF said in its statement that Dr. Reddy’s which is India’s one of the top pharmaceutical firms will conduct phase three clinical trials of the vaccine Sputnik-V in India though it awaits regulatory approval.
It is expected that the vaccine will arrive in India later this year however it is subject to the completion of phase three trials and the registration of the vaccine by the regulatory authorities of India. RDIF has already signed vaccine supply deals with Kazakhstan, Brazil, and Mexico.
Russia became the first country to license and register the vaccine for the COVID-19 pandemic. Since it has announced it before the results of the phase three trials several doctors and scientists are concerned about the safety and effectiveness of it.
