Lootere was not a typical Bollywood film which generally contains high dose of entertainment with masala sprinkled over it to make it for a commercial view.
Based on short story written by O.Henry’s The Last Leaf and from the critically acclaimed Udaan, Vikramaditya Motwane gives yet another knock-out film which is embellished into simplicity. It is the strong direction and tight screenplay which keeps you intact till the end. Though the pace of the film is slow and many fond it boring but it was a treat for art house cinema lovers. Full marks should be given to brilliant cinematography which captures the charming world of Bengal during post-independence period. Along with this , soothing background score adds icing on the cake. Editing could have been better.

Lootera was set on natural location of Bengal and Dalhousie. Dialogues were astounding. Every song composed by Amit Trivedi is tuneful especially “Zinda” beautifully written and sung by talented Amitabh Bhattacharya. Sonakshi Sinha gave a superb performance. The girl-next-door looks further allowed the actress to get into the character of Pakhi. Watch for her in the second half. Ranveer Singh surprises you with the serious role.
Produced by Anurag Kashyap under Phantom Films, Lootera could not do well at the box office, collecting Rs 28 crore against a budget of Rs 32 crore.
