A month after announcing its decision to rebrand, Zomato's shareholders have approved a special resolution to rename the company as 'Eternal,' as stated in a stock exchange filing. However, the food delivery business will continue to operate under the Zomato brand, with no changes to the app. Eternal will serve as the parent company overseeing four key businesses: Zomato, Blinkit, District, and Hyperpure. As of March 10, Zomato's market capitalization stands at Rs 1.91 lakh crore.
As per a regulatory filing on Sunday, Zomato's shareholders approved a special resolution to rename the company, leading to corresponding amendments in its Memorandum and Articles of Association."In connection with the above-referred matter, I submit my shareholders of the Company have duly passed the special resolution for the item as set out in the Notice approving the following: To approve change of name of the Company and consequent alteration in the Memorandum of Association and Articles of Association of the Company," the regulatory filing stated.
Last month, in a letter addressed to shareholders, Zomato founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal stated. "Our Board has approved this change today, and I request our shareholders to also support this change. If and when it is approved, our corporate website will transition from zomato.com to eternal.com. We will also change our stock ticker." He stated that the decision to officially rename the company aligned with Blinkit's growing role as a key driver of its future growth.
"When we acquired Blinkit, we started using "Eternal' (instead of Zomato) internally to distinguish between the company and the brand/app. We also thought that we would publicly rename the company to Eternal, the day something beyond Zomato became a significant driver of our future. Today, with Blinkit, I feel we are there. We would like to rename Zomato Ltd, the company (not the brand/app), to Eternal Ltd," Goyal stated.
