A Delhi-based app developer who bought the JioHotstar domain last week just made an unexpected move by selling the domain to two kids in UAE. The children from Dubai run an educational charity for disadvantaged children.
An app developer from Delhi who bought the domain did so with the intention that if the merger is successful, the company would like to go for this name and has to buy it from him. He sought this opportunity to cash in enough funds to fulfil his dream to study in Cambridge. The developer conveyed this message to a Reliance Executive through the website.

However, this backfired, as a Reliance Executive did respond to his message and warned him about legal actions to be taken against him under copyright infringement. The company claimed that the domain JioHotstar is a copyright infringement of their trademark. However, the developer argued that the domain was bought before an entity of this name was created by this merger.
Today, when viewers accessed the website, it redirected them to a page that added a new message from an educational initiative in Dubai started by two children, Jainam and Jivika. The message read, “Hello! We are Jainam and Jivika – siblings from Dubai, UAE, on a mission to make a difference. Even though we’re just kids, we believe that age is only a number when it comes to spreading kindness and positivity. Our recent journey began during our summer holidays when we left our home in Dubai for 50 unforgettable days in India.”
The app developer reportedly sold the domain to these kids for Rs. 1 crore. This is said to help the developer avoid any legal charges that the company can file. Since the domain is sold to a charity, the company cannot file any charges against the kids. The merger is given a green light from the Competition Commission of India and is set to create the biggest media entity in the country.
