Fanfiction has long been a popular creative outlet, with some stories even making it to the big screen. The upcoming film The Idea of You, based on Robinne Lee's novel, is set to premiere soon, starring Nicholas Galitzine and Anne Hathaway.

Galitzine plays Hayes Campbell, the lead singer of a famous boy band, whose character has drawn comparisons to Harry Styles. However, Galitzine clarified that while Styles was an inspiration, BTS also played a significant role, particularly in choreography.

Nicholas Galitzine: “It’s funny just because it’s become this thing in of itself. We have tried to distance ourselves from that, and I think Hayes is such a wonderful character in of himself. There were so many amazing references we used: BTS for a lot of the choreography, which was really great. There’s so many references out there.”

Despite initial assumptions, author Robinne Lee denied that the story was "Harry Styles fanfiction," emphasising its focus on challenging perceptions of women's desires as they age. Galitzine echoed this sentiment, stating that Hayes was crafted as a unique character, not an impersonation of Styles.

Nicholas Galitzine: “We tried to create a character that felt, maybe akin to Harry in the sense that, you know, he’s a younger man dating older women. It was important to create someone new and original and not a sort of shoddy impersonation.”

The Idea of You is set to be released on Prime Video on May 2, 2024, promising a fresh take on romance and music, with influences from both Western and K-pop music scenes.
