Just days after completing his mandatory social service, BTS’ Suga made headlines again—this time for a meaningful cause. On June 17, Severance Hospital in Seoul announced that Suga had donated 5 billion won (about $3.6 million USD) to build a dedicated treatment center for children with autism. The new facility will be named the Min Yoon-gi Center, after his birth name.
The donation marks the largest single contribution ever made by a K-pop idol to a hospital.
Suga didn’t just sign a check—he got directly involved. From March to June 2025, during his military leave, he attended weekend sessions and worked alongside Prof. Cheon Keun-ah, a pediatric psychiatrist at Severance Hospital, to co-develop a music therapy program.
“While I was preparing the program with Prof. Cheon and doing volunteer work, I learned how music can become a pathway for communication and self-expression,” Suga said, according to a hospital statement. “It has been such a pleasure and privilege to join the journey of supporting autistic children.”
The Min Yoon-gi Center will support the hospital’s MIND program—short for Music, Interaction, Network, and Diversity. It aims to offer a mix of medical care and therapy focused on autism spectrum disorder.
Once complete, the center will provide:
Language therapy
Psychological and behavioral support
Long-term treatment plans over 10 years
Music-based social skills training, co-developed by Suga himself
The facility is being built at Severance Hospital’s Sinchon branch, and it’s set to open its doors in September 2025.
Suga officially wrapped up his social work-based military service on June 15, and this donation marks one of his first major public moves since returning. His decision to contribute both time and money highlights his commitment to causes he personally connects with.
