Bollywood movies are already underperforming on the box office be it any superstar or genre or big budget film meanwhile Kareena Kapoor's solo release Buckingham Murders is facing heat due to the re-release of Tumbbad & Veer Zara in the theatres.
Buckingham Murders which was one of the most anticipated films of the year could earn only Rs. 1.15 Cr at the box office through advance booking. This is Kareena's poorest opener in last 20 years of her career. On the other hand niche film like Tumbbad which is actually a re-release has grossed hefty amount with selling over 21,000 tickets just through advance booking across national chains.
Whereas, another old film which was revived in the theatres Veer Zaara sold more tickets than Buckingham Murders on Friday. The promotional aspect also worked well for the old films Tumbbad & Veer Zaara than the newly released film.
Though there are still hopes left for Buckingham Murders with the presence of Kareena Kapoor in the film just that people don't really know about it thanks to the lack of promotion & branding. It is also very difficult to tell if the film is in Hindi or English due to the title of the film. Filmmakers should be aware of the facts that Hindi viewing audiences consider and accodingly curate content. It will be a tough ride to watch out for in upcoming days with many big budget and anticipated films coming down the lane.
