From 1970’s till the late 1990’s, the movie used to run for multiple week ensuring a solid profits for the producers and the distributors. However, the trend started to change from 2000’s and especially later on when the chances of a film earnings is only during the initial days. Surprisingly, “Neerja” and”Sultan” were the ones which ran in theater for more than expected period even though they faced tough competition from the new releases.
“Sultan”, in particular, was one of the biggest release this year which had right ingredients to make it to an instant blockbuster. It did and proved that content is “KING” here. Initially, the way “Sultan” was creating waves, everybody was under the impression that it is going break “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” and “PK” lifetime box office collections, but it ran out of steam later and settled for a 300 crores mark.
Yesterday, the remarkable film completed the 50 days glorious run at the box office making to one of most bankable position in the history of Bollywood cinemas and standing tall as the 3rd highest grossing film of all time after “PK” and “Bajrangi Bhaijaan”.
