'You Are a Child of Cinema'; Kiran Rao to Aamir Khan When He Wanted to Quit Films

Bollywood actor Aamir Khan is known for his versatile acting performances and unique scripts. Apart from being an actor, Aamir Khan also has his own production house. Recently, Aamir Khan appeared on Rhea Chakrabothy’s podcast where he revealed that he wanted to quit acting and how his family reacted to this news.

Aamir said, When I told them three years ago that I was quitting films, their reaction, according to me, was, ‘Papa, how will you quit films? You’ve been involved like crazy for the past 30 years. You must be emotional right now and saying this, but you will not be able to do it.’ They just nodded and said okay. Then I called my team, my production team… which included Kiran as well.  I said that I do not need this company anymore because I am not going to make films. But you are all in the same profession and want to make films, so I want you to take the company from me and make films.”

Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan got married in 2005, but later got divorced in 2022, but have remained close friends ever since. Amir Khan revealed what Kiran Rao said to him when he told her he wanted to quit films to focus on his family. He said, “Kiran told me, ‘You’re leaving us all.' I said no I am leaving films and now I will spend more time with you all. Kiran said, ‘No, you do not understand this right now. If you’re quitting films, you are a child of cinema… you are made for cinema and if you are leaving it then you are letting go of life and the world. We are part of that world too so you are leaving us too. She was crying. I said that won't happen, you are getting it wrong. But she was correct which I didn't realize it then.”

In the same podcast, Aamir was also asked if he will get remarried again, on which he answered, I am 59 now, where will I get married again, mushkil lag raha hai. I have so many relationships in my life right now, I have reconnected with my family, my kids, etc. I am very happy just being with people who are close to me. I am working towards being a better person.”

Aamir Khan was last seen in Laal Singh Chaddha which did not do well on the box office. He also produced the film, ‘Laapata Ladies’, alongside Kiran Rao, the film was both commercially and critically acclaimed.
