In a significant stride for female-led cinema, Yami Gautam's latest film Article 370, also starring Priya Mani and Vaibhav Tatwawadi, has made an impressive mark at the box office. Released on Cinema Lovers Day, the film has garnered praise for its gripping narrative and stellar performances, particularly those of the lead actors.
Despite offering tickets at a discounted price of Rs 99 on its release day, Article 370 managed to rake in an impressive Rs 6.21 crores on its opening day. The momentum continued on day two, with the film earning a commendable Rs 9.08 crores, bringing its two-day total to Rs 15.20 crores. This achievement is noteworthy as it sets a new benchmark for female-centric films in 2024.
Comparing Article 370's performance to past female-led successes, the film's opening collection surpasses that of Rani Mukerji's Mrs Chatterjee VS Norway, which earned approximately Rs 3.22 crores on its first day in 2023. Similarly, in 2022, Alia Bhatt's Gangubai Kathiawadi garnered Rs 10.50 crores on its opening day. Article 370's success speaks volumes about the growing acceptance and appreciation for women-led narratives in Indian cinema.
