Recently, Tumbbad, a 2018 Bollywood film was re-released in theatres and gained appreciation from the audiences. After the success of the re-release, actor and director Sohum Shah announced a sequel, ‘Tumbbad 2’.
Recently, in an interview he was asked whether making Tumbbad 2 will be easier due to the positive response to the Maddock Horror-Comedy Universe. He answered, "I don't think that is a problem. Those films are different. None of them are like Tumbbad. There's a lot of difference in these stories. They are not making dadi-nani ki kahaniyaan. Our story is not based in modern times. Our film begins and ends in the period time. We have a rakshas, a demon. They are not dealing with such elements."
The Maddock Horror-Comedy Universe started with Stree and has now expanded to Bhediya, Munjya and Stree 2. The characters of these films have often been seen interacting in the form of cameos leading to the creation of this Universe.
He also talked about Tumbbad 2, saying, "The kind of love and support that you guys have given to Tumbbad, I think it will now be easy to make Tumbbad 2. We are still in the pre-production process and locking the script. Once that is done, we will look out for the right kind of backing."
Tumbbad is based on Maharashtrian folklore and the film was also shot in Maharashtra, in real-life locations. It was previously shelved and was delayed multiple times. Even the script was written multiple times before Sohum Shah and Aanand L Rai agreed to produce it. The film was directed by Rahi Anil Barve.
