Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor announced on Sunday that a film festival will be held across India in December to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of his grandfather, legendary filmmaker Raj Kapoor. Speaking at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) , Ranbir shared that the festival will feature restored versions of Raj Kapoor's movies to honor his legacy ahead of his centenary on December 14.
Ranbir Kapoor shared that 10 of Raj Kapoor's films are being restored by the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC), the National Film Archives of India (NFAI), the Film Heritage Foundation (FHF), and his uncle Kunal Kapoor.
Ranbir said, "We are going to organise the Raj Kapoor Film Festival from December 13-December 15 all over India. We will show the restored version of 10 films of Raj Kapoor's films."
He further added, "I hope you guys come as well (to watch the film festival). I remember the first time I met Alia, she asked me 'Who's Kishore Kumar?' It's just a circle of life, people are forgotten. It's important we remember our roots."
Ranbir Kapoor, who has expressed his dream of making a biopic on his grandfather Raj Kapoor, revealed that he has discussed the idea with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, whom he considers his "godfather."
" It's a very tough biopic to make. I don't know if my family would also agree for most of the things, to show this side of Raj Kapoor. But I think it would really make a great movie," Ranbir said.
RK also shared that the first Raj Kapoor song he played for his two-year-old daughter Raha was "Kisi Ki Muskurahaton Pe Ho Nisaar" from the 1959 movie Anari.
Ranbir Kapoor is excited to work with Sanjay Leela Bhansali again in the film Love & War. Bhansali had launched Ranbir's acting career with the 2007 movie Saawariya.
