Satyaprem Ki Katha Review: Kartik-Kiara’s Wholesome Romantic Drama Reflects Modern Bollywood Age

Bollywood is getting new wholesome stories with some approaches which might won’t be accepted by the core mid-age audiences but surely bring the youth (the new audience) to the theatres. Satyaprem Ki Katha starring the recently successful on screen jodi Kartik Aaryan & Kiara Advani (Bhool Bhulaiya 2) is truly a story of calibre to connect with the audience and impress with its phenomenal elements.

Directed by Sameer Vidwans Satyaprem Ki Katha is a total entertainer with a gripping message under the wraps. It starts with the dance number Gujju Pataka song by Meet Bros, Star Boy Loc, Kumar; it becomes evident that Gujju vibe comes before anything in this movie.

Satyaprem aka Sattu (Kartik Aaryan) is a well-cultured LLB failed bachelor in the middle-class Gujrati family who falls in love with pretty & out of league Katha (Kiara Advani) who is daughter of famous Halawai in the city Harikishan. Good for nothing Satyaprem who has no idea how he is going to impress her but the destiny changes and the sudden stressed situations in the fun atmosphere bring them together and Katha gets married to Satyaprem.

What happens after their marriage and is Katha really wants what she has is the real story ahead that the makers want you to watch. Satyaprem Ki Katha has all the dramatic yet fun family scenes in its first half and the second half gets stretched to embark on the journey of the couple, Katha’s traumatic past & the message that movie wants to tell.

Kartik Aaryan always embraces in such roles where he has to do nothing but be natural and just show-off some dance skills. Kiara Advani on the other hand has grabbed one of the difficult role of Katha and has passed all the levels of being perfect. Gajraj Rao comes with the best show, he doesn’t holds you until the last scene, you will want more and more from the fun father-son relationship shown in the film. On the other hand Supriya Pathak as Diwali (Sattu’s Mother) & Shikha Talsania as Sejal (Sattu’s Sister) nails their roles breaking stereotypes of patriarchal society and being the bread earning members of the family.

Sameer Vidvans have made sure that all the characters grow in their space and brought their roles to the story. Rajpal Yadav’s cameo as Doodhiya is one of the incomplete character which doesn’t have any specific agenda in the story, also his dialogues are pretty off bit than other to create an cameo impact same goes with the Nirmiti Sawant as Christmas Masi, she comes into the frame abruptly in the tail of the film and doesn’t really add much to the story and vanishes again in the climax.

Music is one of the major aspects of the film, with huge dance numbers coloured in Gujarati costumes, Navaratri & Garba’s. While ‘Aaj Ke Baad’ by Manan Bhardwaj & Tulsi Kumar stays in your mind.

Overall, Satyaprem Ki Katha tries to give very major silent message through an interesting tale which could have been more critically correct about it but impresses you with the staggering performances.
