After much speculation, it has been confirmed that Ranveer Singh will play the iconic role of Shaktiman in a trilogy film adaptation produced by Sony Pictures India and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment.
Ranveer will portray both the superhero Shaktiman and his alter ego, Pandit Gangadhar, a geeky photographer at a newspaper. This ambitious project adds another dimension to Ranveer's diverse filmography, which includes critically and commercially successful movies like Ram Leela, Bajirao Mastani, Padmaavat, Gully Boy, 83, and Lootera.
Basil Joseph, known for directing the 2021 Malayalam superhero film Minnal Murali for which he also held on the international stage to lift up the award of Best Direction (Fiction) at the Asian Academy Creative Awards, in a surprise Basil will helm this Shaktiman trilogy.
The film is planned to have a staggering budget of 300 crores for each part. Joseph is collaborating with writers Arun Anirudhan and Justin Mathew from Minnal Murali and Durgesh Singh from the popular TVF series Gullak to bring the legendary superhero to the big screen.
The scripting is expected to be completed by the end of the year, with filming scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2025. The release is targeted for a festive weekend in 2026.
Before starting work on the Shaktiman trilogy, Ranveer will finish shooting for Farhan Akhtar's Don 3, where he will portray the third generation of Don, following Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. He will also reprise his role as Simmba in an extended cameo in Rohit Shetty's Singham Again. Additionally, Ranveer is in discussions for a collaboration with a prominent Tamil director, although details are still being finalized.
