Bollywood film Jaat was one of the most anticipated releases of April, but the film has landed in the controversy and is receiving backlash from the Christian community over a church scene, post its release on April 10.
In the controversial scene from Jaat, Randeep Hooda portrays the film's villain, Ranatunga, who is standing at the front of a church and directly under a crucifix. His arms are extended in a pose that shows a strong resemblance to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, while members of the congregation are seen praying. The scene also includes depictions of hooliganism and intimidation inside the church.
The Christian community has been offended by this scene and are demanding a ban on the film. According to reports, the community claims that the scene offends their religious sentiments and seems to insult them. It has been reported that the community members first intended to organize a protest against the film. They are now demanding a ban on it. Community representatives have also presented a memorandum to the Joint Commissioner, calling for a prohibition on the film's theater screening.
Jaat is an action thriller film written and directed by Gopichand Malineni and stars Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda, alongside Saiyami Kher, Regina Cassandra, Jagapathi Babu, Ramya Krishnan, Vineet Kumar Singh and Zarina Wahab. The film has earned around Rs. 50 crore as of now.
