Manisha Koirala Opens Up on Battling Depression on Sets of Heeranandi

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’ has become one of the most watched series on Netflix ever since it first came out. The show follows the story of a group of women, tawaifs, and their struggles to live in society with the backdrop of the Indian Freedom Struggle Movement. The show stars Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hyderi, Fardeen Khan, Richa Chaddha, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Sonakshi Sinha and has received mixed reviews from the viewers.

Recently, in conversation with a media outlet, Manisha Koirala opened up about battling depression while also shooting for Heeramandi. Koirala said, "Being impacted by cancer, I know how important your body, mind and health are. How intertwined they are. How dependable they are. So sometimes when I'm in deep depression...Even now sometimes I go into depression. When I was doing Heeramandi, it consumed me so much. My mood swings were constantly fluctuating. And I just knew, 'Sail through this phase and once this is out, focus on your health’."

Manisha Koirala played the role of the formidable Mallikajaan, who rules the Shahi Mahal and likes to assert control on other characters. Most of the conflict in the show is caused because of Mallikajaan. Manisha plays the character with such intensity that sometimes you forget it’s the actor acting. She has been praised by many for her role in the show.
