His live-in partner Anita Advani had claimed rights over the property. Not only this, she had also sent a legal notice to Rajesh Khanna’s family.
She had sent a legal notice to Rajesh Khanna’s family a day before his death. She had called herself a surrogate wife. She had said- ‘I took care of him, handled his blessings, and not only this, I also kept the fast of Karva Chauth for him.’ After Anita’s claims, Rajesh Khanna’s family distanced themselves from her during the actor’s last days and kept her out of the funeral.
Rajesh Khanna was diagnosed with cancer and the legendary actor suffered a lot during his last days. During that time, only Rinke Khanna was with her father during his last days, Twinkle Khanna was pregnant thus she couldn’t travel much to see her father’s deteriorating health.
In an interview, Anita had said that "she had demanded compensation for taking care of and supporting Rajesh Khanna. I was with him during his loneliness. She had told me that Rajesh Khanna dreamed that his bungalow Ashirwad should be converted into a museum. I had also talked about this but after his death, it was ignored. According to Yasser Usman’s book Kuch To Log Kahenge, Rajesh never wanted for himself, he gave everything to his children. True to his words, the legendary actor named everything in his daughter’s name, while his wife, Dimple Kapadia stood empty handed".
