Filmmaker Kiran Rao expresses her hope that her film Laapataa Ladies will be chosen as India’s official entry for the 2025 Academy Awards. She shares that it’s her long-held dream for her film to represent the country at the Oscars.
On this she said that, " My dream would be fulfilled if it was, if it would go (to Oscars). But it's a process, and I'm hoping it'll (Laapataa Ladies) be considered. I'm sure the best film will go, whoever they choose in the scheme of things."
Released in March this year to widespread acclaim from critics, Laapataa Ladies stars Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, and Sparsh Shrivastav in leading roles, along with Ravi Kishan, Chhaya Kadam, and Geeta Aggarwal Sharma.
On Thursday, Kiran attended the Celebrate Cinema 2024 event at Whistling Woods International, joined by writer Sneha Desai and actress Nitanshi Goel. She expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming love and support her film has received.
She said that, " They've picked up all the little nuances and every single detail. It's really so heartening and rewarding to a filmmaker when there's that kind of love. It's not just (limited to) 'it's a good film and you carry on."
The critically acclaimed film seeks to promote gender equality in rural India, focusing on women's education and empowerment. Last month, Kiran and Aamir attended a special screening at the Supreme Court of India, which was organized for judges, their families, and officials.
