The Mumbai court has granted actor Kangana Ranaut one last chance to appear before issuing a non-bailable warrant against Javed Akhtar's Defamation Case. Recently, Ranaut skipped a mediation meeting to settle the defamation case with Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar.
Actor's advocate Rizwan Siddiquee informed the Bandra court that she was attending some urgent Parliament, which prevented her from appearing. However, Akhtar's advocate Jay K Bhardwaj filed an application against Ranaut seeking the issuance of a non-bailable warrant to ensure her presence. Bhardwaj pointed out that Ranaut had been absent on nearly all 40 key dates since the past when she was required to be present in court.
The court has asked Ranaut's Council to give a reply to the application by Akhtar's advocate and has decided to give a last chance to Kangna before proceeding with the warrant.The legal dispute between Ranaut and Akhtar started in 2020 after the actress discussed an alleged 2016 meeting with the Bollywood veteran in a interview. After seeing that interview Akhtar felt the claims msde by her were wrong and filed a defamation case against her, claiming that her statements were damaging to his reputation. Inreturn Kangana Ranaut also filed a complaint against Javed Akhtar stating that he forced her to apologize.
In December 2024, both parties had agreed to put a closure to this case but the process has yet to take place The session was scheduled for Tuesday, with Akhtar present before the Magistrate's court. However, Ranaut's absence further delayed the case.
