During discussions, C. Ashwini Dutt also mentioned that the team has yet to finalize a release date. There have been speculations that Nag Ashwin and crew might expedite production to meet a 2025 deadline. However, after the blockbuster success, expectations for the sequel are sky-high. Surely, the makers of the Prabhas starrer will not rush and deliver anything less than stellar.
Will Deepika Padukone be replaced in the Kalki 2898 AD sequel?
According to a Times Now report, C. Ashwini Dutt and his team originally planned to wait for Deepika Padukone to return from her maternity leave. The actress is expected to deliver her first child in September 2024.
However, a source close to the production disclosed, "But now, with the demand for the sequel escalating following the first film's massive success, the producers are contemplating replacing Deepika in the sequel."
Deepika Padukone received immense acclaim for her role as Sumathi. She is considered as integral to the Kalki Cinematic Universe as Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan. We can only hope that these are unfounded rumors because if they turn out to be true, it would surely disappoint moviegoers.
