The tide turned when Vidhu Vinod Chopra's directorial hit OTT platforms on December 29, 2023, transforming it into a cultural phenomenon. The film, once overlooked, is now the talk of the town, gaining widespread acclaim. Astonishingly, it has ascended to become the highest-rated Indian film on IMDb.On IMDb's list of the top 250 Indian films, '12th Fail' now holds the coveted number one position with an impressive rating of 9.2 out of ten.

What resonated with millions of viewers is that this Vikrant Massey starrer is grounded in reality, depicting the lives of UPSC aspirants and drawing inspiration from actual experiences. The film delves into the harsh struggles faced by countless students attempting the UPSC entrance exam, and remarkably, it has emerged as the unexpected hit of the year.

It is now being reported that two captivating Indian films from 2023 are under consideration for nomination by the Academy Awards jury. Sources close to both production teams reveal that Shah Rukh Khan's "Dunki" and Vikrant Massey's "12th Fail" boast unique tones, making them strong contenders to set a compelling example for audiences. The positive reception of Indian cinema by Western audiences further enhances the films' chances of securing nominations and even winning awards. 

Both movies have not only performed well in the market but have also garnered immense love for the emotional depth they evoke. Addressing crucial subjects close to both Indian and international audiences, directors Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra have skillfully conveyed powerful messages. A month ago, Vikrant Massey also confirmed the fact that the film 12th Fail has been sent to the Oscars in 2024 as an independent nomination when the talk of makers were planning to send the film to the Oscars in 2024 was doing rounds.

Earlier, Shah Rukh Khan's earlier films, 'Swadesh' and 'Paheli' had also made their way to the prestigious Academy Awards in their respective years. Despite facing a box office clash with Prabhas 'Salaar,' 'Dunki' emerges triumphant, grossing over Rs 200 crore domestically and surpassing the Rs 400 crore mark worldwide.
