South Indian Cinema and Bollywood film director Sandeep Reddy Vanga is known for his male centric films with films like Arjun Reddy, Kabir Singh, Animal, which have proven to be box office successes. Even though these films are commercial hits, they are often criticized for promoting toxicity and violence.
Vanga’s films cater to a larger male audience, and often portray toxic male behaviour and misogyny, as pointed out by many critics. Recently in an interview, Vanga talked about making a film with no male stars, something very different than his usual approach to the films.
During the interview, Vanga was asked to choose between a film with no songs or a film with no male lead actor. To this he replied, “There is one idea where I want to make a film with no male lead actor.” He further added, “Maybe in the next 4-5 years, I will make it. You will also say it’s true, what he said five years ago.” Acknowledging this choice, the interviewer suggested that this idea might please those who have criticized his previous films. He replied to this by saying, “Vo bhi pasand nahi aayega unko, main likh ke deta hoon.”
In the same interview, Vanga chose Ranbir Kapoor and Animal over Shahid Kapoor and Kabir Singh. He also said that Ranbir Kapoor agreed to all of the decisions made by the director, which led to the film being a success.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga made his Bollywood directorial debut with ‘Kabir Singh’, Hindi remake of his Telugu film ‘Arjun Reddy’. He further collaborated with Ranbir Kapoor to make ‘Animal’, an instant box office success. Vanga is now anticipating the release of his next film ‘Spirit’, starring Prabhas.
