Box office is again going to get a boost as Mr. and Mrs. Mahi released today on 31st May 2024; the film stars, Janhvi Kapoor & Rajkummar Rao in leading roles. It is a romantic sports-drama directed by Sharan Sharma and produced by Zee Studios and Dharma Productions.
The plot of the movie revolves around a married couple who share a love for cricket begin training in the game due to her natural talent. In an exclusive interview with Popdiaries, Sharan Sharma opened up on the filmmaking of Mr. And Mrs. Mahi; he explained the reasons why he casted Rajkummar Rao as his lead actor. While he also explained the rigorous training sessions behind Janhvi Kapoor's stellar performance in the movie as a cricketer.

Not for the first time but Sharan Sharma has worked with Janhvi Kapoor in her OTT debut, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl. Onn Working with her again in this film Sharan said, "I feel she has a lot of innocence and nativity while playing that character. I think Janhvi’s ability to kind of deep dive into emotionality and bring out lot of vulnerability on the screen, that is something which has naturally in her. I think her biggest talent is her ability to work hard and her honesty for why she is in the movie."
On Janhvi's preparations for the character, the director said, "It was a test of lot of things in this film. I pushed her limits extremely hard and put lot of strain on her. Achieving playing cricket was a very alien world for her cause she never played cricket in her life and for me that was the key reason of wanting to make the film of trying to achieve a certain level that the cricket fan will be proud of. I’m extremely proud of her hardwork, in spite of injuries; there was a time when doctor said one more injury and she can’t pick up a bat ever in her life."
Rajkummar Rao is playing the character of Mr. Mahi in the film who is a kind of a mix of green and a red flag personality. Talking about his casting Sharan said, "Raj is the best fit. He is gift to Indian cinema, He is one of the best actors we have, very proffessional, he is so easy to work with and he is here in film business for the pure love towards cinema. His ability to understand Mahendra and add lot of depth and complexity."
Recently, Bollywood movies are not working that well on the box office with many big projects adjoining big names are went to the superflop ways. While, there are many expectations on Mr. And Mrs. Mahi; looking at the compelling story, cast and big productions alligned with it. Though the director seems pretty chill about it. He says, "I'm quite a box office nerd in that sense but when it comes to my own film and journey of Mahi I feel very calm and satisfied, what I've realised in my 11 years that nobody knows anything, there's always a new theory every 2 months. you just have to make a great movie from your heart and I believe in that."
