Bollywood and Television actor Rajesh Kumar who recently starred in the film, ‘Binny and Family’, decided to step away from limelight and leave his career in television in 2017.
Recently, in an interview, Rajesh said that he later became a family farmer and there were many struggles in that startup. “A few of them subscribed to it, the rest of them chose to ignore it. There’s a long list of people who at first said ‘Wow, what an amazing idea’ and then ignored me. They were the people with whom I had shared screen space,” he revealed.
Rajesh was also in debt during this period, "I had more than Rs 1.5 crore debt after becoming a farmer. My friends and family invested the entire year in this journey, which was the most difficult phase of my life. I was answerable to the people who had lent money to me: my family, farmers, and my wife."
But when his startup failed, he was forced to sell vegetables in front of his son’s school, and his son even requested his teachers to buy vegetables from him. “After the start-up failed, I started to sell vegetables outside my son’s school. It made people think, ‘He has gone mad. Why is he selling vegetables?’ It happened so that when my son saw me selling vegetables outside his school, he went to his teachers and said, ‘Would you please buy vegetables from my dad?’ He was in third grade at that time. Then all of his classmates went to different classrooms to inform them I was selling vegetables, and requested the teachers to buy it from me”.
He further said, “My purpose to sell vegetable outside my son’s school was to show I wasn’t doing a menial job. My purpose was to make children acknowledge that it’s a great work. My purpose was to educate the consumers and not the farmers. They often ignore the hard work that goes behind growing the coriander leaves, which they often ask for free.”
Rajesh Kumar is known for his roles in shows like ‘Sarabhai Vs. Sarabhai’, ‘Yeh Meri Family’, ‘Neeli Chhatri Waale’ and many more. He was last seen in the film ‘Binny and Family’, starring alongside Anjani Dhawan and Pankaj Kapoor.
