Despite not being active on social media, MS Dhoni boasts of one of the biggest fan bases by an Indian sportsperson. Dhoni, who played his last international match against New Zealand in the semi-final of ICC World Cup 2019, took his fans by surprise as he decided to hang his boots on the evening of August 15. Dhoni’s post went viral on social media in no time and given his aura, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote a special letter for one of the greatest skippers in the world.
Dhoni, who remained away from social media throughout the lockdown, took to the social micro-blogging site to thank the PM for the wonderful gesture.
“An Artist, Soldier and Sportsperson what they crave for is appreciation, that their hard work and sacrifice is getting noticed and appreciated by everyone. Thanks PM @narendramodi for your appreciation and good wishes,” Dhoni wrote.
As per Twitter India, Dhoni’s tweet was also the most retweeted tweet in Indian sports in the year 2020. So far, the tweet has garnered more than 73, 500 retweets.
