BCCI To Allow Spectators For Pink Ball Test In Motera, Invites PM Narendra Modi

BCCI will be reportedly allowing fans to attend the 3rd Test between India and England at the Sardar Vallabhai Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad. The third Test match of the four-match series will commence from February 24.

Allowing the crowd in the stadium for the third Test will be the first time in India since January 2020. A BCCI source spoke to Indian Express and revealed the plans for the pink-ball Test between India and England.

“As the seating capacity is more than a lakh, the GCA can easily accommodate 50 per cent crowds for the third and fourth Tests. The Government has allowed sports stadiums to run with 50 per cent capacity so it has been decided to allow fans for the matches in Ahmedabad. The media will also be able to cover the game from the stadium.”

The new Motera Stadium will be hosting its first international match, which will be played between India and England on February 24. The stadium has the capacity of 1,10,000, the Motera Stadium is the largest cricket stadium in the world.

It has also been revealed by the source that certain dignitaries will also be invited for the first two Test matches in Motera. Indian Express mentioned that the BCCI has already extended invitations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president J P Nadda and Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju. The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) president might be also attending the match.

The pink-ball Test against England will be a big occasion for the Indian cricket, however, there’s no confirmation yet on the first two Tests in Chennai.

An early announcement was made which confirmed that spectators won’t be attending the first two India vs England games, the revised COVID-19 guidelines might increase the possibility of allowing the crowd in the stadium. Tamil Nadu Cricket Association secretary RS Ramasaamy told Times of India, the final call rests with the BCCI.

India will host England for 4 Tests, 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is. The first match of the bilateral series will commence from February 5 2020. The first two Test matches will be played in Chennai while the last two will be played in Ahmedabad.
