BCCI in an official statement announced Indian squad for World Test Championship Final and following Test Series against England in England Subcontinent in the month of June, August and September. With not many surprises selectors have picked the jumbo squad under captaincy of Virat Kohli.
Three injured players; Jadeja, Vihari and Shami have returned to the squad while Kuldeep Yadav and Navdeep Saini are dropped, Hardik Pandya will be missing for some reasons while Shreyas Iyer for his injury recovery.
The selectors also picked four standby players — Abhimanyu Easwaran, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan, and Arzan Nagwaswalla, the BCCI stated in a press release.
K L Rahul, who underwent a surgery after being diagnosed with appendicitis, and Wriddhiman Saha, infected with COVID-19 during the recently-suspended IPL, have been included subject to their fitness.
Rest of the squad is same as Rohit Sharma and Shubhman Gill will open for the team, in middle order Pujara, Kohli, Rahane and Pant are some fixed players. Vihari and Agrawal will be the substitutes for batters while Jadeja, Ashwin, Axar Patel and Sundar will play the role of All-rounders.
In the pacers unit, Bumrah, Ishant Sharma and Shami will lead the attack while India will also have tough substitutes for them in Siraj, Shardul Thakur and Umesh Yadav.
The WTC final against the Black Caps will be held from June 18 in Southampton followed by the Tests against England from August 4.
The Test series against England will start in Nottingham, followed by matches at the Lord’s (August 12 to 16), Leeds (August 25 to 29), The Oval (September 2 to 6) and Manchester (September 10 to 14).
