The Board of Control for Cricket in India has allotted nine venues to host the T20 World Cup 2021. In the 7th Apex Council meeting which was conducted virtually on Friday, the members were looking forward to the smooth functioning of the T20 World Cup tournament later this year.
The BCCI has shortlisted nine venues for the tournament and the final decision will be taken later. The finalisation of the venues will be made depending upon the Coronavirus situation in India.
“The nine venues have been informed and it was again discussed that preparations should continue for the showpiece event with an eye on the COVID-19 situation and a call will only be taken closer to the event.”
“It is too early to imagine what can or will happen in October-November with regards to the coronavirus situation. But preparations shall be on,” a BCCI source revealed while speaking to the ANI.
Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Dharamsala and Hyderabad could be the possible venues for the tournament according to reports. Ahmedabad’s newly branded Narendra Modi Stadium might be hosting the final of the World Cup T20.
The upcoming World Cup tournament will be its seventh edition, 16 teams will be taking a part in the competition with 45 games will be played in total. West Indies will enter as the defending champions as they won the previous T20 World Cup which took place in 2016. Sri Lanka and UAE are the backup options for the WC venues.
