The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is unhappy with the senior all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan for choosing the entire IPL 2021 season for the Kolkata Knight Riders.
The Bangladesh cricket team is scheduled to play a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in April. A few matches of the ICC Test Championship will be clashing with IPL 2021. Shakib has made his decision of playing the IPL and missing out on the Test series.
According to BCB president Nazmul Hassan, the board will be aiming to amend its central contract to prevent scenarios like these in the future.
The fast bowler Mustafizure Rahman also earned a contract at this year’s IPL auction. Shakib and Rahman were acquired by Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals respectively.
The BCB president had something to say on Bangladesh players skipping international duties for IPL, as per ESPNCricinfo he said:
“We will enter into new contact with the players (for 2021). It will be mentioned clearly who wants to play which format. They have to inform us. If they have any other engagement, they have to be clear about their availability. It is very open. Previously, it depended on individuals but now we are confirming it in writing, so that nobody can say that they haven’t been allowed or we kept them forcefully.”
Shakib was a crucial player for KKR in the year 2012 and 2014 when they won the IPL title. The southpaw was released by the franchise in 2017, he was signed by the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the 2018 mega-auction. Shakib has played 63 IPL matches so far, he gathered 746 runs and picked 59 wickets.
