Atalanta will be welcoming Real Madrid in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 ties at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo.
In the on-going season, Real Madrid got past the group stages, finished second in Group D behind Liverpool. On the final day of the group stage action, they registered a victory against Ajax to move into the knockout rounds. In the previous season, they made history by beating Valencia in the round of 16 to reach their first-ever Champions League quarterfinal. At one point it seemed like Real Madrid wouldn’t qualify from Group B. They faced a defeat against Shakhtar Donetsk at home and drew against Borussia Monchengladbach. They eventually qualified as group winners after beating Gladbach in the final group name.
On the other hand, Atalanta is in good touch as they won their previous three games. They beat Napoli 4-2 on Sunday as they build momentum before they move ahead in the season.
The two teams will face-off for the first time in an official competitive game.
Hans Hateboer has been injured and won’t feature in the upcoming game. Apart from this, Atalanta has no issues regarding injuries or suspensions.
On the other hand, Real Madrid might face a lot of issues regarding injuries. With Karim Benzema’s absentee from this game, the concerns regarding injuries are piling up.
