India’s experienced spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who plays for Delhi Capitals has announced an unspecified break due to personal reasons from IPL 2021. Ashwin opened up about this decision through his official Twitter account shortly after their super over-victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday.
The all-rounder said that his family is dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic and he needs to support them in such a situation. Ashwin even said that he might even return for DC if the situation improves.
There is a hike in the number of COVID-19 patients in India which is making the scenario worst in the country. The cases have been reaching 300,000 daily. The continuation of IPL amidst the pandemic is also being questioned.
Delhi Capitals has acquired the second spot on the points table with eight points after yesterday’s victory against SRH. The young captain Rishabh Pant will surely miss the experience and services of Ashwin in the middle. The 34-year-old cricketer conceded just 27 runs in yesterday nail-biting fixture. Finding Ashwin’s replacement will be a huge task for the DC camp. In their upcoming IPL fixture, DC will be facing Royal Challengers Bangalore on Tuesday at 7:30 PM at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
