On Thursday, a knife attacker beheaded a woman and two other people at a church in the city of Nice, France. Mayor of the city Christian Estrosi posted on Twitter the knife attack had happened in or near the city’s Notre Dame church and that police had arrested the attacker. According to the Police, three people were confirmed to have died in the attack, and several were injured.
Estrosi said the attacker had repeatedly shouted the phrase “Allahu Akbar”, even after he had been detained by police. Estrosi told reporters, “The suspected knife attacker was shot by police while being detained, he is on his way to the hospital, he is alive. Enough is enough. It’s time now for France to exonerate itself from the laws of peace in order to definitively wipe out Islamo-fascism from our territory.”
Estrosi said French President Emmanuel Macron is due to visit Nice. The French anti-terrorism prosecutor’s department revealed it had been asked to investigate the attack. Reuters journalists at the scene said police armed with automatic weapons had put up a security cordon around the church, which is on Nice’s Jean Medecin Avenue, the city’s main shopping thoroughfare. Ambulances and fire service vehicles were also at the scene.
This is another attack in France within 15 days. Earlier on October 16, French teacher Samuel Paty was beheaded for showing caricatures of the prophet to his students. For Islam and Muslims, Prophet Muhammad is sacred and anything against Prophet is blasphemous.
Firmly opposing the murder, President Emmanuel Macron had said, “We will continue… We will defend the freedom that you taught so well and we will bring secularism; would not give up cartoons, drawings, even if others back down.”
Countries like the UK, Kuwait, Qatar, Palestine, Egypt, Algeria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia along with Turkey have opposed France. Political leaders from Pakistan and Iran have strongly opposed the statement of the French president. France is facing the wrath of Islamic countries.
