There are very directors in Bollywood who has the guts to do something out-of-box and still make audience fall in love with their films. Shoojit Sircar is one of those directors who made Ayushmann Khurrana and Yami Gautam starrer Vicky Donor, which was a complete different movie with a beautiful message. Shoojit Sircar (his second film after Yahaan) went a complete different way and chunked out a very hard hitting yet very delightful movie with a lovely message in the end. It takes guts to direct a film of this stature and at the same time make it entertaining. The script holds your attention right from the beginning till the end while he story by Juhi Chaturvedi (Piku and Octobor) is superb considering to be one of its kind in Bollywood.
Coming to performances, Annu Kapoor steals the thunder. The actor was superb in the role of Dr. Baldev Chaddha. Ayushmann Khuranna was amazing as a first time actor. The actor plays the role of Vicky with conviction. Special mention for his tuneful compilation of the song “Panni Da rang” which he had sung and written as well. Yami Gautam surprises with her acting. She gets the ample scope to display her talent in the 2nd half. Dolly Ahluwalia and Kamlesh Gill were outstanding as the mother and grandmother of Vicky.
According to the Boxofficeindia.com, Vicky Donor was released on 20th April, 2012 at 575 screens to Rs 1.97 crores. Produced by John Abraham, the comedy-drama collected Rs 8.23 crores in its first weekend and went onto collect Rs 14.17 crores in its first week. Vicky Donor ended its theatrical run with Rs 41 crores against a budget of Rs 10 crores against a budget of Rs 10 crores and turned out to be “Super-hit” at the box office.
