While being in an interview at the Seoul headquarters of their record label Big Hit Entertainment, they were talking normally but then got serious, too, on the topic of mental health. There he was asked whether they found it harder or easier as celebrities to put their private pain out there in songs and on social media.

And Suga was adamant, “We feel that people who have the platform to talk about those things really should talk more, because they say depression is something where you go to the hospital and you’re diagnosed, but you can’t really know until the doctor talks to you.

“So I think for not just us but other celebrities,” he goes on, “if they talk about it openly, if they talk about depression for example like it’s the common cold, then it becomes more and more accepted if it’s a common disorder like the cold. More and more, I think artists or celebrities who have a voice should talk about these problems and bring them up to the surface.”

Also, Suga himself said that anxiety and loneliness seem to be with him for life. During an interview, he went on stating that, “Anxiety and loneliness seem to be with me for life. I put a lot of meaning into how I would work it out, but it seems like I have to study it for my entire life. Emotions are so different in every situation and every moment, so I think to agonize every moment is what life is. By the lyrics, I wanted to tell people ‘I am anxious, so are you, so let’s find the way and study the way together.’ There was never a moment when I didn’t have a dream. And I fulfilled all of my dreams. I wanted to debut and become a singer doing my music as a trainee, I wanted to win a #1 after debuting, I wanted to win a Daesang and go to Japan and America after winning a #1. Billboard and the AMAs were actually unimaginable, but they happened. Now I don’t feel like I’m running for a specific dream, but these days I started to think values and happiness as a person are important.”

Further added, “So now, it’s a long way to go until I reach those. I’ve achieved a lot as a singer, but last year was a turning point. I’m only 26 years old. I’ve been doing music for 10 years, but I’ll do it longer. I really have a lot of thoughts to myself at this beginning of the year.”

In a new interview with Esquire, “People’s conditions vary day by day. Sometimes you’re in a good condition; sometimes you aren’t. Based on that, you get an idea of your physical health,” Suga went on to explain.

“That same thing applies mentally. Some days you’re in a good state; sometimes you’re not. Many pretend to be okay, saying that they’re not ‘weak,’ as if that would make you a weak person. I don’t think that’s right. People won’t say you’re a weak person if your physical condition is not that good. It should be the same for the mental condition as well. Society should be more understanding.”

We all need such famous personalities /influencers in our lives to help us break the stereotypical thoughts. This is much needed in the current time, where people are ashamed of talking about anything openly and they start hiding their weakness from society in fear of being teased.

Hope we soon break that big chain of stereotypes and live with no tension ahead.
