Shah Rukh Khan impressed the audience at the initial stage of his career as anti-hero in films like Darr, Anjaam, Baazigar and Raam-Jaane. His fans were expecting the same charisma and spontaneity from 2016 dark thriller, FAN. Let us see how much Maneesh Sharma directed film collected as it completes 5 years today at the box office..
FAN tells the story of an ardent fan, Gaurav, whose world is Aryan Khanna (both played by Shah Rukh Khan). He embarks on journey to meet his idol but when his dreams to interact with him shatters, he turns violent and becomes an impulsive stalker causing disturbances in Aryan Khanna’s personal life.
The story of FAN will immediately bring you the memories of 90’s Shah Rukh Khan’s blockbusters like Darr and Anjaam where the superstar succeeded in playing anti-hero role with aplomb. In fact, he further went on to reprise the role of Vijay (originally played by Amitabh Bachchan) in Farhan Akhtar’s Don. Maneesh Sharma, who previously made Baand Baaja Baraat, Ladies vs Ricky Bahl and Shudh Desi Romance, stepped into an unexplored territory transforming from a romance-drama into a dark song-less film. While the first half of FAN was definitely engaging and will keep you on the toes, the catch-mouse game between Gaurav and Shah Rukh Khan will keep you on your toes and will generate few tense moments in the second half.
Coming to the performances, you cannot imagine anyone else apart from Shah Rukh Khan playing the role of both Gaurav and Aryan Khanna. The actor does well in playing the real-life character of Aryan Khanna but it is the obsessive fan Gaurav which was worth- watching. The actor goes into character of Gaurav and gives his best. Other actors does justice to their part.
According to the Boxofficeindia.com, FAN was released on 15th April, 2016 at 3450 screens to Rs 19.07 crores. Produced by Aditya Chopra, the dark-thriller collected Rs 52.34 crores in its first weekend and went onto collect Rs 71.42 crores in its first week. FAN ended its theatrical run with Rs 84 crores against a budget of Rs 121 crores and turned out to be “Flop” at the box office.
