As humans, we all feel the same love, despair, hope, ambition and sadness. When our stories are inclusive of everyone around us and we see more lives reflected on our screens, that’s when the magic happens. This Pride month, here are some of our favorite, most loved LGBTQIA+ characters from Netflix series and films, who have moved us, and made us think.
Fabiola Torres, Never Have I Ever
A scientific mastermind, wearing polos buttoned up all the way to the top, is one of our favorite characters from the recent Netflix title Never Have I Ever. In this highly relatable series, Fabiola beautifully transforms from a shy, and confused girl who is worried about telling her friends and family about her sexuality, to a strong and confident girl who isn’t afraid to accept who she is.
Adam Groff, Sex Education
A bit confused in the beginning, Adam represents a young bisexual man. His journey of self-discovery and acceptance resonates with the many young souls who also struggle with their identity. Adam leads their way to show that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and that you can only love others when you embrace yourself the way you are.
Helsinki, Money Heist
The lovable Helsinki in Money Heist masterfully breaks stereotypes. He is tough, and intimidating, gay and we love him. While we admire him for his combat skills, he is a caring friend and that makes him even more special.
Kukoo, Sacred Games
Kukoo in Sacred Games is a transgender and in this gritty drama, takes us on her complicated journey as a moll. Kukoo wins our hearts with her sheer confidence.
Todd Chavez, BoJack Horseman
Todd Chavez is a wacky, lovable, and surprisingly insightful sidekick in BoJack Horseman. Although initially unsure about his sexuality, Todd comes out to his friends and truly embraces himself as asexual.
