For the first time since its release on 28th October, the Ajay Devgan directed and produced “Shivaay” has managed to beat Karan Johar’s “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” at the domestic box office with slight margin on its second Friday.
“Shivaay” is slowly taking over the position from “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” to wear the box office crown. Though the film was written off, but with good collections on each passing day, “Shivaay” is holding its status strong at the box office. With not-so-great reviews, the first day opening of “Shivaay” was a decent Rs 10.24 crores followed by stable Rs 10.06 crores on Saturday. Due to grand Diwali celebration on Sunday, “Shivaay” dropped to Rs 8.26 crores but Monday showed a mindblowing figure earning Rs 17.35 crores. Last day of the first week, “Shivaay” dropped reasonably posting a good result of Rs 6.05 crores. With second Friday collections to Rs 4.61 crores, “Shivaay” beat the collections of “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” which earned Rs 4.56 crores bringing the total to Rs 75.02 crores. “Shivaay” also crossed the lifetime business of “Kapoor And Sons” which earned Rs 73.03 crores.
The budget of “Shivaay” is Rs 105 crores and should need to perform exceedingly well to do post healthy box office figures.
