While the Republic Day releases – Kangana Ranaut starrer Panga and Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Street Dancer opened below expectations on Friday, both films showed a massive growth on Saturday at the box office.
Same thing last year when Manikarnika-The Queen Of Jhansi opened to decent response on the first day but grew by a solid 100% on the second day. Kangana Ranaut can celebrate as she has been recognized Padma Shri awardee and her latest flick, Panga, more than doubled on the second day at the box office. Directed by Ashwini Iyer Tiwari, who directed magnificent films like Nil Battey Sannata and Bareilly Ki Barfi, Panga received favorable response from the audience
Panga earned exceptional reviews as can been seen from BookMyShow.com but competition from Street Dancer and Tanhaji prevented it from taking a decent opening. Panga opened to somewhere between 5-10% in the morning shows but could not pick up in the evening and night shows later, collecting Rs 2.70 crore on the first day. The sports drama showed a growth by almost 120%, collecting a Rs 5.61 and bringing the two days total to Rs 8.31 crore. Sunday should be great as well owing to the Republic Day celebration across the country. The budget of Panga is Rs 45 crore (Production cost is Rs 35 crore, Promotion and Marketing is Rs 10 crore)
Street Dancer 3D
Street Dancer earned good reviews as well from critics and users as per BookMyShow.com which led the film to open well in the morning shows to around 25% occupancy across India.
Follow up to the hit franchises like ABCD and ABCD 2, Street Dancer connected well with youth and ended the first day collections to Rs Rs 10.26 crore. The earnings grew up by 35% on the second day with Rs 13.81 crore (as per early estimates), bringing the two days total to Rs 24.07 crore. Like Panga, the collections of Street Dancer should go up further due to the holiday. The budget of Street dancer is Rs 95 crore (Production cost is Rs 85 crore, Promotion and Marketing is Rs 10 crore) from 3700 screens.
