Charles III became England’s new monarch when his mother, Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8, 2022. On May 6, he officially became the King with his head holding the crown at the Coronation ceremony.

The Archbishop of Canterbury crowned King Charles in a lavish coronation ceremony held inj London on Saturday, placing the 360 year old St. Edward’s Crown on the 74 year old Monarch’s head as he sat upon a 14th century throne in Westminster Abbey.

The new King of England, who succeeded his mother when she died last year, was earlier presented with an array of historical regalia from golden orbs and bejewelled swords to a spectre holding the world’s largest colourless cut diamond.

But as a British Royal, especially the King, as to follow several rules and protocol:

  • The King maintain political neutrality
  • The King can’t sign autographs or pose for selfies
  • The King must accept all gifts
  • The King can’t eat food from strangers
  • The King must follow the dress code on his foreign trips
  • The King must follow suitable dining etiquette
  • The King is not allowed to travel with the Prince of Wales
  • The King must always pack a black outfit when he travels
  • The King doesn’t need a driver’s licence to drive a vehicle

After the ceremony, King Charles III and Queen Camilla will return to Buckingham Palace. For the King’s Coronation, the first in the UK for 70 years, thousands of people gathered across the city to join in on the celebrations.

His son, Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, also arrived from the US on Friday on a commercial flight to attend the royal Coronation ceremony. It is the first time since he has been in public with his brother, Prince William, since his memoir, Spare was released.

Several reports suggest that Harry will most likely fly back home to the US soon after the ceremony is over to re-join his wife Meghan, as their son Archie, who is celebrating his fourth birthday.
