The singing-reality show, Indian Idol has been in the news for various reasons. Last season of the show, Indian Idol 12 was infamous for creating fake love angles between the contestants. Many people also questioned the authenticity of the show. Amidst all, Mini Mathur, who hosted the first six seasons of Indian Idol, recently revealed the real reason behind quitting hosting the singing-reality show.
Mini Mathur spills the beans about Indian Idol’s reality. In his podcast with Cyrus Broacha, Mini revealed that she was very much invested in every single person of the show. She shared that she would invite contestants for dinner at her home, however, she couldn’t digest the fact that the makers started urging her to create moments in the episodes.
Mini Mathur said, "I called it quits only when I realised that now, there is no longer real reality. I did six seasons. After that, it was just a question of making money, but by then, the husband had already started making money. But I really didn’t appreciate that reality had become constructed."
Was asked to create moments between Hema Malini And Dharmendra!
While recalling the days before quitting the show, Mini Mathur revealed that the makers asked her to create moments of Hema Malini and Dharmendra. She said, "Our producers would walk up to me and say, ‘Abhi woh Dharam ji aur Hema aa rahe hain, unka moment karna hai'. I said, ‘Moment karte hain ke hota hai? Can you leave it to my experience to create something that will move them, maybe?’ This is not something I’m going to do, and of course, it wasn’t just Idol, I did a lot of stuff after that. And it all had the same chhaapa."
Mini Mathur, got married to director Kabir Khan. She was last seen in a web series, Mind the Malhotras.
