Aditya Roy Kapur and unflamboyant stories is the good old combination. He always tries to deliver his best performance but it takes many elements for a film to create an all over impact and that’s where Gumraah lacks. Though stunning star cast overshadows the cons.

Directed by Vardhan Ketkar & produced by T-Series Gumraah is a crime thriller starred Aditya Roy Kapur in dual role along side Mrunal Thakur & Ronit Roy as police officers. Vedika Pinto too casts herself as love interest of one of the characters of ARK.

It starts with crime scene where the criminal murders someone in likely Ek Tha Villain type with screw driver, rain coat and no hidings from the innocent, straight attack on the face. ARK loves action and it suits him for some reason he slays as a criminal in that rainy dark night.

Police investigation starts ahead with inspector Shivani Mathur (Mrunal Thakur) & ACP Dhiren Yadav (Ronit Roy) comes into the picture. For a change director Vardhan Ketkar takes a positive approach towards police proceedings atleast for leads unlike other Bollywood movies. But still there are some things which shows stereotypical thoughts as few cops are shown obese while few are not attentive. But the overall impression looks healthy, thanks to the characters of Mrunal and Ronit Roy.

Actual mystery starts when cops came to know that there are two look alike suspects on the murder case. Story takes a long turn to explain their individual lives ahead till the interval. Vedika Pinto enters in Arjun’s life (one of the characters played by ARK), she nails her looks in their short love story but their chemistry seems little off.

Aditya Roy Kapur could have done much better if he had enough space. He doesn’t fit for a flirty guy over here rather he nailed the second character of Ronnie, a rough guy who is a scammer and loves his friend Chaddi. He is addicted to drugs and gambling. But on the other hand he has extreme knowledge of laws thanks to his dad who was a lawyer.

How cops solves this mystery of two look-alike people with their connections to the crime scene is the story ahead. Written by          Magizh Thirumeni this story has unlimited threads and it could have been an amazing web series for that matter. As Gumraah as a film doesn’t focus on the any one thing in major, it shifts a lot and audience too can’t match with that tempo.

Rating- 2.5/5
