"It's a dream come true!": says Suga upon announced as ambassador of NBA

The National Basketball Association and BIGHIT MUSIC, the leading music label behind 21st century pop icons BTS, today announced that South Korean rapper, songwriter, producer and BTS star SUGA has been chosen as an NBA Ambassador.

As an NBA Ambassador, the AUGST-D rapper will engage NBA fans around the world through the remainder of the 2022-23 NBA season and beyond. SUGA, himself an avid NBA fan, will participate in several league initiatives that will be featured on the NBA’s and his personal social media channels. Including attending NBA games and events in the U.S. and Asia, and also participating in the league’s promotional activities.

The NBA will also have a presence throughout SUGA’s first solo world tour, collaborating around select concerts in celebration of the release of SUGA’s debut solo album, D-DAY. SUGA has featured playing basketball in several of BTS’ projects, most notably in the music video for the group’s global hit “Dynamite,” which in 2020 earned the group their first appearance at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

In the video Suga says, "Music and basketball have been shared passions of mine since my youth, and it’s a dream to be named an NBA Ambassador. I’m excited to formalize my relationship with the NBA, and I can’t wait to share some exciting collaborations I have planned with the league over the coming months."

On which NBA Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer Mark Tatum made a statement that, "We’re thrilled to join forces with SUGA – a superstar musician, fashion icon, and passionate NBA fan. We look forward to working with SUGA to bring the same excitement he engenders from his global fanbase in support of our continued efforts to grow our brand."

SUGA attended The NBA Japan Games 2022 Presented by Rakuten & Nissan, last September, which featured the reigning NBA champion Golden State Warriors and the Washington Wizards playing two preseason games. He sat at the courtside and posted behind-the-scenes social media content including meet-and-greets with NBA players and legends.

SUGA most recently attended the Dallas Mavericks at Los Angeles Lakers game on January 12.

Along with it the announcement of releasing date of Suga: Road to D-Day has been made. April 21 is decided as the streaming day on DisneyPlus.

Road to D-Day is a documentary that will showcase rapper's journey across the world as he travels to find inspiration for his latest album D-DAY.

The usually reserved Suga will be seen in a candid avatar, where he will not only provide insights to his fans about his creative process, but also discuss things such as writer’s block and other practical and philosophical musings he has when creating something from scratch.

Suga will be seen travelling from Seoul to Tokyo, Las Vegas and beyond in this documentary.

Besides being a rapper and a music producer, Suga is also a songwriter. He has collaborated with popular musical artistes such as Halsey, PSY, IU and of course BTS, where he is one of the seven band members of the wildly popular music group.

Also Suga confirmed the reports of a new collaboration between him and IU by dropping a teaser for his upcoming song “People Pt.2.”

“People Pt.2,” will feature IU, and is a pre-release track off Suga’s upcoming first official album “D-DAY” and is due out on April 7 at 1 p.m. KST.
