Kaushik was in Mumbai for Holi on Tuesday and in Delhi to continue the festivities on Wednesday. Early Thursday, Satish breathed his last. His end was as dramatic and poignant as a plot from one of his many films. The artiste of the screen and stage who acted, wrote, directed and produced, died at the age of 67, after a heart attack on his way to the hospital in Gurugram. Theatre, films, OTT and TV, the lgend made his presence felt in all over a four decade carrer.

FATHER TO MASABA GUPTA

Masaba Gupta took to her Instagram handle to share a throwback photo of her mother Neena Gupta and Satish Kaushik from their earlier days as she mourned the loss of ace actor-director. In the black-white throwback photo, a young Neena and Satish are seen working on a project together. Masaba captioned the post, ‘Rest In Peace Kaushik Uncle – you gave mom the greatest gift… your kindness through all those years – will miss you.’

Neena and Satish has shared the screen in Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro. In her autobiography ‘Sach Kahun Toh’, Neena spoke about her long friendship with Kaushik. She also revealed that when she became pregnant with cricketer Viv Richards’ child, Kaushik suggested to her that she pass the child off as his after getting married. Neena was unmarried at the time and was anticipating backlash for having a child. She further revealed that in the book that, Satish told her that if the child is born with dark skin, she can just say it’s his and they can get married. According to him, nobody will suspect a thing.

Satish Kaushik was a man of great humility and compassion. He was known to be a mentor to many young actors and filmmakers in the industry, always ready to lend a helping hand and offer words of wisdom. His generosity and kindness were legendary and his loss has left a deep void in the hearts of all those who knew him.

Once during the pandemic, when Satish had shared a black & white image of himself at the Mumbai station and recalled his struggles in showbiz, Shekhar Kapur had tweeted at him and reminded him of their time together on the sets of Masoom.

Shekhar wrote, “Remember Satish, when you were assisting me on Masoom, you asked that if I had to shout at anyone, I should shout at you. Why? I asked. Will never forget your reply. ‘because as an assistant, how else would people notice me?”

SAVED THE AUTHENTICITY OF Mr. INDIA

Satish came to Mumbai with just Rs. 800 in his pocket and dreams in his eyes. The young boy from Delhi’s Karol Bagh, graduated from Kirori Mal College, DU and did theatre, wanted to be an actor but instead became an whole entertainer. Satish refused the idea of making the sequel of Mr. India by saying, “In my personal opinion, there are a few films which shouldn’t be touched, whether it’s for a remake or sequel. Mr. India is one such film, which I feel shouldn’t be remade as it will not have the same feel. Mr. India was an amalgamation of fine artists collaborating to create a good entertaining film,” The late actor had said during an interview after the movie completed 35 years in 2022. The movie was the last written script by the celebrity duo Saleem-Javed.

THE HELPING HAND

Television actor Aniruddh Dave who was discharged from the hospital after battling Covid-19 for over a month, has revealed that actor-filmmaker Satish Kaushik helped him a lot during the period. He also said that Satish made him change his caller tune to a Mr. India song from a Mera Naam Joker song.

When the actor was getting diagnosed, “Satishji helped a lot. He spoke to the doctors and a lot of people for me… my caller tune was Kal khel mein hum ho na ho (from Raj Kapoor’s Mera Naam Joker). Satishji said that I should change it to the Mr. India one.” As per the report, Aniruddh’s current caller tune is Zindagi Ki Yahi Reet Hai from Mr. India. Reacting to it, Satish Kaushik replied, “I am delighted that Dave is alright now. I did just what I had to. But more than me, it was my friend Dilip Suryavanshi from Bhopal who helped.”

WELL WISHER FOR TANNAZ CURRIM

Talking about an incident while Satish Kaushik was shooting for ‘Humara Dil Aapke Paas Hai’, “I ended up in an issue for one strong role I had cast Mita Vashisht as Aishwarya’s friend. But she looked extremely strong for the character and I realised that I am making a mistake. So I called it a lunch break on the shoot and shared my problem with Mita. Even she agreed as she felt she was a wrong fit for the role. Later, I called Tannaz Currim and cast her for this role in the film.”

While mourning Satish Kaushik’s demise, Tannaz posted a video from the show and wrote a long post for the late actor. She wrote “This is how I got the role in the movie Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai. How sweet and humble of him to mention it in the show. I worked with him when he was my director and my first movie also was with him, Hadd Kardi Aapne. Which we shot in Switzerland. He was so jovial and always had some story or the other to share with us!”

She further wrote, “You shall be missed and I feel really bad I didn’t just pick up the phone and talk to you then to thank you and shower my praise on you. Life is indeed short. And every time we lose someone it’s a wake-up call to all of us that live in the moment. May his soul rest in peace. Thank you for everything.”
