Kiara Advani and Sidharth Malhotra have just become Bollywood’s newly married couple. And from their dress to shoes, jewellery to makeup everything is in talks.
The new talk of the town is the emerald necklace which Kiara wore with her bridal lehenga on the wedding day, on February 7.
The green necklace that she wore is made up of Zambian emeralds that are expected to be one of the most expensive and rarely found emerald stones.
Zambian emeralds are known for their intense green colour and clarity. They have a greater level of clarity because of a lower incidence of “eye-visible inclusions”. These emeralds have higher iron content then Colombian emeralds, giving them a more intense green colour.
The stones are found in the Kafubu Emerald district in the copper belt province of Zambia. They are mined in an area of approximately 2000 square kilometers.
Zambian emeralds are mined using traditional mining techniques by pick and shovel method. They are often treated with oil or resin to enhance their colour and clarity.
The lack of vanadium, predominant in Colombian emeralds, results in its distinctive shade that ranges from light to dark green and slightly bluish to bluish-green. Their chemical composition makes them less brittle or porous, leading to smaller, high quality gems.
